How Do I Get My CEUS Online?

Its that time again: you need continuing education units (CEUS) to renew your professional license or credentials. Certification organizations, government licensing boards, and professional societies require continuing education (CE) for licensing. While some people plan carefully and attend courses, conferences, and seminars, others get caught behind. Such is the predicament facing nurses, marriage and family therapists, and social workers in need of continuing education every few years.

The International Association for Continuing Education and Training gives the following definition of a Continuing Education Unit:

One (1) CEU is equal to ten (10) contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.

One contact hour is 50 consecutive clock minutes in a board-approved continuing education class or activity.

Instruction must come from a continuing education program recognized by the licensing board of your particular profession. Upon completion, your CEU records not only supply evidence to licensing boards of successfully passing the courses, but they also give employers information about your training.

Luckily, getting CEUS is easier than ever with the internet. Whether youre an LCSW, an MFT, a nurse, or another professional in need of continuing education, there are a variety of CE offerings online. Online CEUS offer several advantages:

Save time. You can complete CEUS online at your own pace. If your deadline is approaching quickly, you dont have to wait for books, materials, or tests to be mailed back and forth. You can finish your online education in a matter of a few days, whereas through traditional mail could take up to 30 days. You also dont have to wait for your conference or seminar to roll around and save commuting time.

Gain Instant Access. After signing up, you get immediate access to reading materials and tests. You receive instant feedback on your test scores, and upon successful completion, you can print the course certificate from the comfort of home.

Save Money. The online environment does not have the same overhead that conferences, seminars, and colleges do. Most online courses cost less than $10 per CEU. Compare that to hundreds of dollars youd pay for CEUS at conferences or college courses.

Make sure your online CEUs will be accepted.

When considering online CEUS, verify that your course will count towards your CEU requirements. Requirements vary by state, so be sure to check with the professional licensing board over your jurisdiction. Save yourself the hassle: get an answer in writing before you start.

Tips for Starting Your Own Jewelry Business

Staring your own business can be an intimidating challenge. However, this task can be made achievable by setting up realistic goals, and following a few easy steps. If you have a passion of fashion and are an outgoing person, you can establish your own silver jewelry business. Being in the jewelry business myself, I can tell you what you will need in order to start one on your own.

For the last seven years, I have been a wholesale silver jewelry supplier. I have helped close to a thousand people start small businesses of their own by providing them with excellent quality silver jewelry at honest wholesale prices along with free advice and consultancy. My first piece of advice to people who are new into the world of business is to set attainable goals and objectives, and make a business plan. As hard as it may seem, in reality there are few barriers to entry to starting your own business with low cost service providers, marketing, communication and availability of wholesale jewelry suppliers. Given below is a list of things you can do in order to start or enhance a successful jewelry business.

i. Make a plan: It is very important to have a good plan. A formal business plan is not necessary unless you want to get a loan or an investor. Instead, the plan you make should be meticulous, especially on the financial side.
ii. Think about whether the jewelry you want to sell is right for your intended market. Diamond jewelry is probably not the right product for a flea market!
iii. You can host a home-based jewelry party yourself or have a friend host it and give her some free stuff as compensation. Ask your friend to invite her friends and relatives for the party. These people come to buy and you have no competition.
iv. Buy off EBay - many people buy things at good prices and then just re-sell them.
v. Search the web for other silver jewelry wholesalers.
vi. Put jewelry out at your own or your friends garage sales. It really works!
vii. Visit these sites frequently:

www.paypal.com : Online payments and merchant account

www.Godaddy.com : Domain registration and turn-key hosting solutions

www.fetpak.com : Low-cost jewelry supplies and displays (ring boxes, findings, etc.)

www.ShippingSupply.com : Low-cost shipping supplies

www.jewelrysupply.com : Jewelry supplies and displays

Wholesalegemshop.com : Supplier of wholesale silver jewelry

http://www.festivalnet.com : Wholesale Silver Jewelry Supplier List of craft shows throughout the country Great source of low cost products

Ebay.com - Wholesale Jewelry : EBay Pro-store - turn key ecommerce solution

http://www.adwords.google.com : Google Adwords Program

The above-mentioned points are helpful hints that will assist you in either starting a jewelry business or making your already existing jewelry business successful. I could have used this information when I started out. I enjoy helping people get started in their own businesses. Even though my business has grown substantially since I started out, I still feel truly grateful to every one of my customers who enable me to succeed and allow me to pursue the lifestyle I chose.

Calcium Deficiency-are Your Bones Ready For It?

Calcium is the kind of mineral that is most likely to be a deficient in an average human diet. Currently, calcium deficiency is a common condition to every individual. According to the official statistics gathered by the Federal government, only 21 percent of the total population in the United States is getting the required amount of calcium.

Importantly, having calcium deficiency may result to a long term thinning of the bones, osteoporosis or the softening of the bony tissue and commonly called as osteomalacia. Also, the defective metabolism of the calcium in the body during childhood may result to the condition called rickets A recent study showed that lack of the required calcium level may cause hypertension or high blood pressure and colon cancer.

Perhaps youve heard it many times that calcium deficiency may result to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis, is often diagnosed when its too late just to reverse the conditions development. In United States, close to about 10 million individuals have osteoporosis that is caused by calcium deficiency. Close to another 34 million people is experiencing low bone mass, placing them to the risk of having the disease.

Having insufficient calcium intake to the body may result to the drawing of the reserves of calcium levels in your teeth and bones. With calcium deficiency, your bones will become lighter, hollow, and be porous. In weak bones, possible fractures in spine and weakened hips can take place easily and may end to permanent disability, cruel pain, hospitalization, and even death.

Moreover, there are other calcium deficiency symptoms that can be observed by anyone. Since calcium is also present in nails and teeth, having calcium deficiency may bring brittle nails and tooth decay. In view of the fact that your body requires a small level of calcium to move through soft tissues and bodily fluids every time, inadequate calcium intake can bring these additional symptoms and these are:

Experiencing muscle cramps.
Having muscle spasms in arms and legs.
Leg and back cramps
Tingling and numbness, and
Joint pain

Fortunately, to prevent having calcium deficiency, you must take enough amount of calcium whether its in dietary form or in calcium supplements. On the other hand, one of the popular ways to prevent calcium deficiency is to take the calcium supplement commonly called coral calcium. However, you must consult first a health care provider for you to have the right amount of calcium.

Interior Design London UK

Whatever your interest in interior design, London is likely to have what you are looking for. Maybe you are seeking inspiration and imaginative tips on interior design for your own home or you are an interior designer and want to promote your own work, or perhaps you want to hire the services of a professional designer or even study interior design yourself, no matter what your need is, there is no better place to satisfy it than from the design capital of the UK itself, London.

Visiting Exhibitions in London

London hosts a number of exciting exhibitions every year, some of which focus on a specific area of interior design and others that are broader in their approach. Exhibitions serve many purposes, they can showcase new talent and fresh ideas from up and coming interior designers often alongside the work of already well established and highly sought after designers in the industry, they highlight the latest fashions and trends, spark new creative ways of thinking, provide opportunities to network and increase business sales and of course they offer the chance to view the work of some of the best interior designers in the world.

The following list represents just three Interior Design Exhibitions that regularly take place in London:

* 100 Percent Design Exhibition usually takes place in September over 3 days and is open to the general public on one of those days. More information can be found at www.100percentdesign.co.uk

You can search for an interior designer at www.bida.org.

Another option is The Interior Design Handbook website at www.interiordesign.com, where you can search a list of potential designers by location as well as speciality. You will also be able to view their profiles online.

Free Classified Ads - Few Tips You Must Know

Online free classified sites offer a risk free, no cost solution to promote your businesses and sell products and services. Advertising in free classified sites can be time consuming and frustrating if you do not know how to successfully profit from these sites. Knowing the right tricks and tips of online free classified ad will separate you from the hundreds who post thousands of ads without getting any results.

All free classified sites are not created equal. You should focus on a few good sites and post your ads regularly in those sites only. Your starting point is Google search. Go to http://google.com and search for "free classifieds" and "free ads". From the search result pages, visit 10 to 15 sites and register in those sites. If a site asks too many questions during the registration process, abandon the site and go to the next site. Why should you have to provide all your personal information for the site's benefits? Good sites will only ask minimal questions to setup your account so that you can edit, delete and renew your ads. Also, look for sites that will allow you to post without any registration.

Write a precise ad using 80 to 100 words. Write about benefits of your products and services for ad viewers. Try to think benefits in terms of generating extra income, improving health and relationships and providing a sense of good feelings when they use your products and services.

Write a concise, interest grabbing, key words filled ad title with action words that asks the reader to do something now. If you are promoting an affiliate product and many ads are also about the same affiliate product, write your ad title and ad copy differently than others so that your ad stands out in the crowd.

If you are selling personal items, like used cars, cameras etc., provide details description of the item, its selling price, and your contact information. If you are promoting an item to make a profit, do not try to sell your products or services in the classified ad. Use the free ad to lead to another site or your affiliate site where you can provide more information to make a sale.

In classified sites, most recent ads are listed on the top of the ad search or ad listing pages. Some free classified sites have paid premium ads which are displayed on the top of the listing pages, followed by the free ads. Avoid those free sites that accept premium listings. In free classified sites, your ads will be buried deep in the listing pages as more ads are posted in the same category. To keep your ads fresh and on the top of the listing page, renew your ads every couple of days.

Do not spam by posting your ads in all categories. Post only in a few relevant categories, preferably using different ad copies and ad titles. If the site has regional sections, e.g. US states, cities, or countries and your target is to reach every region, post in 10 to 15 regions only. For the search function of the site to pickup your ad for display, you do not have to post in all the available regions. This will save you time.

Always use photos or banners in your ads. Make sure that the size and dimensions of your image files are within the site's acceptable limits. Otherwise, the site may not display your images in your ad at all. There are a few free sites where you can create your banners or you can use your affiliate banners. If you are using the picture of a product, take the picture using a good digital camera and then convert the image to jpeg format and reduce the dimensions prior to uploading.

Using the simple techniques mentioned above, you should be able to minimize your online free advertising effort and increase responses from your ads. Remember, your ad title and ad copy should stand out with action words and pictures. You should regularly post your ads to keep them fresh and on top the listing page.

Dr. Deepak Dutta is the developer of http://www.classifiedsforfree.com - one of the oldest free classified site in the Internet. The only classified site where one can post ads without registering and some system selected ads stay for 30 days. There is no restriction to the type and number of ads one can post.Barby Blog57534

A Marketing Plan to copy

What does a marketing plan cost these days?

Hundreds, thousands? Not that much if you know what to do your self!

Have you asked a Marketing Agency for a quote todraw up a Marketing Plan recently? If you own a small business, then it is hard to justify spending the 600 a day one asked for. We all have to watch our bottom lines like hawks, especially in the difficult-trading-conditions we seem to be in. But here is a dilemma! A Marketing Plan is a really essential tool that will show a small business owner where their business is and map out where it needs to go. It is vital in today's competitive environment that even small business should have one.

When you overdraft comes up for renewal and your bank manager has to justify lending the bank's money to your business, think how much easier it would be to convince them with a plan laid out in neat systematic form.

It is the case that far too many small companies don't have a Marketing Plan, or the owner has it locked up in his head. A place of storage that is really difficult to access when you need to show it to the potential investor or the bank manager. Inevitably this event usually occurs when you are really busy and committing your plan to paper, or computer file, is added pressure that you really could do with out. I run a small retail business and recently I studied for, and obtained, the UK's Chartered Institute of Marketing's "Professional Diploma in Marketing". It was a convergent learning course on the net and in four intensive workshop days in my local town. It brought home to me that what we did in our own business was fine up to a point. As the course was very practical, with the chance to use any organisation of the student's choice in the assignments that we had to submit, I ended up formally setting down the Marketing Plan on paper, that had been up there in my head for no one to see!

So what is a Marketing Plan for?

Well, its purpose is to lay down, direct and co-ordinate all your marketing activities and events. It is like a map. With a map it is easier to get some place. With a marketing plan it is easier to get the business to where you want it to head. This is, hopefully, to huge profits!

Perhaps you are the owner or director of a company seeking backing or further investment? Well a good marketing plan can be really important in attracting new investment or better bank facilities.

Perhaps you need help in making choices regarding which parts of the market to focus on and how to compete in that target market (Marketing Strategy)?

Often the mere process of preparing a marketing plan will help you to develop a successful marketing strategy through the discipline and process that you go through.

A good marketing plan will describe all the marketing actions to be carried out within a specific time period. It will contain details of your company, its products or services, its marketing objectives and strategies and information on how to measure the results of the marketing activities.

It might help if I give you a framework of basic elements that a Marketing Plan should include.

Basic Elements of a Marketing Plan

So what do you need?

1.Executive Summary - introduces and explains the major features and recommendations to executives (or your bank manager).

1.1 Introduction - a brief description of your organisation, its products and or services.

The context and objectives of the plan should be described and a description of what your business activities are. You should include current revenues, customers and your market position. You can also blow your own trumpet here! Note your accomplishments and successes to date.

If it is a new market entry or entirely new markets you are going for, then here is the place to describe any experience, training or competencies that your company has.

1.2 Vision, Mission Statement and Objectives

Mission statements focus on the long-range purpose of your marketing plan.

"To educate entertain and enlighten our clients so that they become more successful Marketers."

Company objectives should be more specific and oriented towards action.

"We will deliver a balanced range of Marketing Solution Publications to the U.K. and Europe through mail order and Internet."

1.3 Team description

Who will deliver the plan? What are the resources and structure of the team who will do so?

Management skills and capabilities. List any Marketing knowledge, sales skills, copy-writing ability, etc.

Agencies - Include any Marketing consultants, PR agencies you are using.

If there are any gaps honestly point them out and do a Training Needs Analysis.

1.4 Main marketing objectives

You need only give a brief statement of these here to close the Executive summary.

2.1 Current market conditions

What are the trends in your market?

What are the dynamics facing businesses such as yours?

Who are your target customers?

What competition do you face?

2.2 Market trends:

You should describe the macroeconomic trends that directly affect the target market that your marketing plan is aimed at.

This is where the PEST Framework is useful to include. (Sometimes referred to as PESTEL, SLEPT or PESTE) the components are:

Political

Economic

Social

Technological

Environment

Legal

2.3 Target market

It goes without saying that you should be aiming all your marketing efforts precisely at a target market or you are heading for a disaster.

All good marketing planning should follow from a very detailed segmentation of the market.

Size? Is it growing, staying the same, or shrinking?

Customer characteristics e.g. age, sex, income level, location, marital status, number of children etc.

Habits, patterns and values of target customer.

What are their wants, needs and desires?

What are their buying habits? - How do they spend their disposable income and when do they buy and how do they buy? How many times and when?

2.4 Competition analysis

In the micro environment analysis of a Marketing Audit you will hopefully have identified your present and potential competitors. What are their key products / services? How do they differentiate them selves? You should briefly explain the actions that you will take to oppose or overcome your competitor's offerings.

I highly recommend you use Professor Michael Porter's Five Forces Model for this and the four other threats he identifies. Space does not allow me to go into detail here although I have written a more comprehensive report in which I include a diagram of the Five Forces Model available from my own website: http://www.promarketer.co.uk

2.5 Issues analysis

You should briefly list such key external issues as government legislation affecting your business, or new technological development that impinges on your product.

3.1 SWOT analysis

Strengths

Weakness

Opportunities

Threats

A major component of any marketing plan is the SWOT analysis. Strengths and weaknesses are born of internal elements while opportunities and threats come from outside.

When opportunities and threats are recognised they can then be examined from the point of view of your product strengths and weaknesses.

What could we change or improve about our product to make it easier for the customer?

What are our customers' wants and desires? - We may possibly find new opportunities by thinking about such questions.

It is worth remembering that a threat can also be an opportunity to you, while a strength may also be a weakness depending on your point of view!

A business offering a vast selection of products may see this as one of their strengths. But for the customer, confused by the bewildering array of options as they try to find what they need, sees it as a weakness.

4. Positioning Strategy

Decide how you want your clients to perceive you in your marketplace.

Lowest price?

Best service?

Highest quality?

This is all part of the differentiation process.

5. Differentiation

You want to 'stand out from the crowd' so you need to make some decisions on segmentation and the positioning of your business. Combine this with your competitive analysis and you should be able to differentiate yourself from the competition.

6. Key messages

Thinking about differentiation should also help you to decide on your 'Key messages'. Be warned that it usually takes time for these to make an impact, to 'sink in', as it were. This means it is important to keep repeating your consistent messages throughout any marketing campaigns.

7. The Marketing Mix

The 4 P's.P is for:

Product - List your companies products and services. Include their key features. Is there something unique about them? If you are launching a new product or service include it here.

Price - There are many ways to set a price, some more scientific than others are! Remember that pricing is an integral part of the marketing strategy. Ask yourself is the customer willing to pay the price proposed and will it give you any profit? Some prices may be set on a cost-plus basis - adding a profit on to the costs of producing the goods or services. A better way is the 'market-based' price because it takes into account what your competitors are charging.

Place - where do you sell? Direct, through an intermediary? Bricks and mortar or virtual outlet?

Promotion - what activities are you going to use to create awareness of your product or service to generate sales? This is also referred to as Marketing Communications and includes direct selling, corporate events, brochures, web-sites, advertising. You should be warned that many inexperienced marketers think that the promotional plan is the entire marketing plan. It is, as you can see, but one component of the marketing plan.

7a. Integration of Promotional activity

Have you got a consistent look and feel to all your marketing mix? It is wise to make sure all your communications, brand positioning, propositions, messages, etc are derived from a single brand position so it is not confusing to the consumer by being fragmented. Also are there cross selling opportunities for you to exploit?

Only 4 Ps? - Funny, I thought I heard there were 7!

Before leaving the marketing mix I need to tell you about the Extended mix, which adds People, Process and Physical evidence to Product, Price, Place and Promotion.

If you are a service, or a not-for-profit organisation, then the extra three Ps are most important for you. But don't just assume that because you are not, that they don't apply!

People oriented organisations have to consider how their personnel make the marketing activities more, or less, effective when dealing face to face (or on the phone) with their public.

Process makes it easy for you to deal with the organisation. If it is a charity, for example, today people expect to be able to go on-line, set up direct-debits, pay by card and not just put money in the street collectors tin.

Physical evidence is expected to result from paying for a service or donating to a charity. You expect to see some physical evidence of the use your money has been put to.

8. Marketing Budget

You need a detailed budget for the next year showing the budgeted costs for each of your promotional items.

9. Measurement

Results and feed back must be gathered each month and compared with the marketing plan. When they are going astray you need to take corrective action.

Another tip is to ask your customers how they found you so that you can monitor what parts of your communications plan are working. Note this and include this in your measurements.

10. Milestones

It is a good idea to announce in the plan some marketing milestones you will strive to achieve. When you pass them celebrate!

So there it is a step by step process to create yourself a professional Marketing plan.

Color Psychology - Logo Design

When we see colors, we connect with them instantly on a subliminal level. No one can be sure if our reactions are the result of our very human nature or if they are shaped by our socialization, but the reactions are very real. The human mind is hardwired to respond to color.

Marketing experts know about that powerful connection between consumers and color. Theyve done a great deal of research using carefully controlled experiments and have decided that color does have a big role in forming peoples perceptions of products and logos. That research is confirmed by real world actions, too. Companies have found that changing a logos color scheme even a little bit can have a giant impact on sales.

When we see colors, we react right away. It happens faster than we can read a single word. In fact, the mind makes color connections and forms opinions before the conscious mind even knows what we are looking at!

A logo is the most repeated and frequently displayed symbol of your business. Its on your letterhead, your website, business cards, products and more. Its your brand and its an inseparable part of your business.

When you think about how important your logo is and consider the power of colors, its pretty obvious that color psychology should be a big part of logo design. If you overlook the color choices in your logo, you might be turning off possible customers instead of attracting new buyers.

Using color psychology to your advantage isnt easy. You can look at a simple chart that lists common colors and explains what they tend to represent--one is even included with this article just to give you some ideas. Doing that, however, really only scratches the surface of what color psychology is all about.

An effective logo designer will go beyond those simple color connections. He or she can take that information and combine it with knowledge of negative color connotations. A logo design specialist will also understand how people react to different combinations of colors and will be able to merge the messages of color psychology with great design skills. The result will be a logo that is both memorable and optimized for color use.

Today, many of us are in love with the do it yourself plan. We think that if we do a little research and work hard, we can do things just as effectively as can a professional. That might be true in some cases, but logo design is a perfect example of when we really need an experts help.

Logo experts understand design. They recognize the power of various forms and can create logos that communicate the nature of a company instantly. They have special skills and knowledge that helps them produce winning logos that look a lot better than our amateur creations.

The wise use of color psychology is a perfect example of how the talents and knowledge of a professional logo creator can make a lot of difference. A good designer will know how to choose colors to communicate a client's message effectively without risking the mistakes "do it yourselfers often commit.

If you are in the market for a logo, consult with a talented logo expert who can use the science of color psychology to your advantage!

Color Psychology Basics

Here are some of the most frequently used colors and the positive messages they communicate. As noted, this basic chart isnt comprehensive. It doesnt list negative associations and it doesnt discuss the best ways to combine colors. However, it is an interesting introduction to color psychology

BLACK: Mystery, secrecy, tradition.
BLUE: Power, calmness, success, trustworthiness.
BROWN: Earth and nature, simplicity, seriousness.
GREEN: Harmony, health and healing, nature and animals, money.
ORANGE: Affordability, fun, youth, creativity, celebration.
PURPLE: Fantasy and dreams, justice, royalty.
RED:Excitement, action, adventure, love, passion, food.
WHITE: Simplicity, cleanliness, innocence.
YELLOW: Cheerfulness, playfulness, curiosity, amusement.

Finding The Right Math Tutor For Your Teen

Your teen is struggling in math class and you have decided that a tutor might help. How do you go about finding a good one? You want someone who relates well to your student, is knowledgeable, and is able to communicate effectively.

One possibility, and perhaps the most economical, would be a peer tutor. Someone in the same class who is doing well or someone who did well in the course a year or two earlier might be interested in doing one-on-one tutoring. If you choose to go this route, you might ask the teacher for names of capable students.

The high school counselors office is another good place to investigate possibilities. Many times they keep a list of available tutors in different subject areas. And if they dont have a list, many times they will lend assistance in trying to locate a suitable tutor.

A certified teacher or retired teacher can be an excellent choice for private tutoring. Many schools have rules that prohibit a classroom teacher from tutoring his/her own students for compensation, but another teacher in the school or a teacher in another district might be available. Many teachers welcome tutoring jobs as a means of supplementing their income. However, you should expect to pay more for a certified or more experienced person.

If your community has a local college, consider hiring a college student as a tutor. When I was teaching I often referred parents to the chairman of the math department of our nearby college. He always had a list of students that were interested in tutoring high school math students.

Talk to other parents of high school students. Word of mouth can be a wonderful source of information when seeking out the right tutor. That parent sitting next to you at the soccer game might just have found a gem of a tutor who is looking for more students.

You might also consider running an ad in your local newspaper to find a tutor. Of course you want to be sure to carefully screen applicants and ask for references.

Lastly, your teen might be a good candidate for on-line tutoring services. There are a multitude of those services available today and they are growing in popularity.

A word of caution about choosing a tutor for your teenteenagers are such individuals. What works for one student might not work for another at all. Some relate better to a peer tutor, while another might be more comfortable with a college student. Be sure that your teenager is an integral part of the process of finding just the right math tutor. This will help insure that you (and your student) reap maximum benefits from the tutoring experience.

Home Automation Technology Selling Your Home in a Buyers Market

With the current real estate bubble bursting homeowners are eager to find a way to move their home faster. Home automation is a proven way to stimulate the interest of potential buyers, in many cases reducing the number of days or weeks a home remains on the market. I was surprised to find out that less than 1% of homeowners in this country have the technology in their home to make selling easier.

Surprisingly this technology remains a niche usually reserved for high-end new homes. I think that the reason behind this statistic is the large investment required in a complete home automation package. The cost can be prohibitive, that is why I came up with new, more modular solutions. I can offer two automation solutions based common internet technologies (TCPIP) using the homes data network for communications.

Utilizing these systems I have developed a way that homeowners and builders alike can invest a small amount into their home to promote a big return. I would suggest that homeowners and builders need to start with a solid technological foundation of wiring.

For many years high-end homes have had structured wiring installed. Structured wiring is a planned wiring method by which all services (phone, data, television, music, and security) originate from a central location or hub. Structured wiring is still an extremely desirable feature; however, one facet of the structured wiring methodology is beginning to overshadow the others in its overall importance. As the technologic world moves toward online programming and distribution of media (streaming media), so does the automation market. The data network is becoming the most critical and resalable components of the home. Investing the time to design a solid wiring backbone for a home can increase the attractiveness of your home to a prospective buyer. This strategy helps both the homeowner and the builder make their homes stand out from the crowd.

If you start with a foundation of structured wiring and a solid data network backbone this makes your home easily upgradeable. I feel that home automation is obviously the wave of the future and this plan enables the homeowner of today to start small and upgrade in affordable pieces. After the foundation is laid you can then decide at a later date what type of systems you desire, such as home security. All you need to decide is how big of a system you need. All systems run through you new upgradeable home, therefore, you can keep it simple or the sky is the limit.

You build the system to fit your needs and to make your life easier, the technology itself makes your home more profitable and easier to sell.

Fake or Fir : A Christmas Dilemma

Every year families are confronted with the dilemma of whether to buy a live Christmas tree, or to invest in an artificial one. For some, the annual quest for Thee Perfect Tree is tradition, an important ritual to usher in the season, and to disregard this ceremony would be tantamount to boycotting Santa Claus. Others appreciate the convenience of a well-formed (albeit man-made) tree waiting in storage for them year to year. While it ultimately comes down to personal taste, there are some definite pros and cons one might want to consider before weighing in on the matter.

First, there is the question of cost. When they first came on the scene, artificial trees commanded staggering costs in comparison to live trees. However, consumers saw the price as an investment, since they would not be buying a tree again for several years. In that way, an artificial tree probably comes up less expensive in the end. Nowadays the cost of an artificial tree can vary from about the same youd pay in a live tree lot, to several hundred dollars. Materials and size also account for the asking price.

The same can be said for live trees. Depending on whether you choose to cut down your own tree or buy a live, ball and burlapped, or otherwise containerized tree that can be planted after the holidays, you may pay anywhere from a few bucks to a few hundred. The disadvantage here is that you must still buy a new tree year after yearunless, of course you choose to decorate an outdoor tree. Tree species and size will also make a difference to your pocketbook.

The next subject up for debate is which choice is the most environmentally sound. Again, it all depends on the way you look at it. While artificial trees are reusable for several years, they are ultimately a petroleum-based product, the manufacturing of which takes its toll on the environment. Once an artificial tree is discarded there is little if any use for it, and most find their ways into landfills.

Live trees benefit the environment from beginning to end. Most are raised on farms, where they are tended for five to sixteen years before they are harvested. During these years they absorb carbon dioxide and other gases from the air and supply oxygen. Every acre of trees planted meets the oxygen needs of eighteen people! Christmas tree farms usually occupy stretches of land that wont support other crops, and they provide scenic byways. Furthermore, these trees stabilize soil, protect water supplies, and provide refuge for wildlife. For every tree harvested, one to three saplings are planted. After the holidays are over live trees continue to benefit the environment when they are recycled into mulch or compost. Some creative individuals have also gathered Christmas trees and used them in various other ways benefiting their communities (see http://www.christmastree.org).

A third point up for consideration is the aesthetic. There can be no argument, artificial trees are manufactured to be balanced and beautifulthere is no need for trimming, nor for worrying about the tree dying before the big day arrives. Neither will you need to vacuum up fallen needles every other day, or change the water. Your hands won't get sappy from touching the branches either. There are a variety of sizes and styles, modeled after a variety of tree species to suit every taste. There are even trees equipped with lights, so that cords are not seen snaking through the branches!

In contrast, a live tree takes more work to look beautiful, but there is nothing that compares to the natural thick pine scent it gives your home! One whiff, and you feel good enough to bring out that vacuum for the twelfth time that day

A final word concerns safety and storage issues. Bringing a live tree into your home and outfitting it with electric lights can be a real safety hazard, especially if the tree is allowed to dry up. Artificial trees are generally made from flame-resistant materials that require little care. What they do require is a storage space to spend the bulk of the year. If you have a decent-sized basement, this may be no problem. Many people actually store their trees fully decorated to save time! But if you live in a tight space without storage, you may have no choice but to opt for the more disposable option of a real tree.

As you can see, when it comes to fake or fir, the choice is personal. Hopefully weve given you some things to think about to help you decide the best solution for this annual dilemma.

Protecting Your Company's Privacy

Today more than any other time in history, protecting company privacy is essential. Unfortunately, the number of cases associated with identify theft have not only risen but also moved from personal to business. Over the past few years, a number of large companies and even government agencies have been in the news for having laptop computers and vital information on employees and the organization itself stolen. What makes this so uncomfortable is that usually, the privacy is being threatened from within the very organization that is supposed to secure it.

Keep in mind that while some organizations are at greater risk for thefts, such as credit card companies, banks, or government agencies, even the small mom and pop shops are at risk. Remember, it would only take one instance of information leaking out to put a company completely out of business. The problem is that not only is data being stolen, but often sold to criminals that know exactly how to extract what they want to make a profit at your expense.

More than ever, it is crucial to do all you can to protect your organization and employees. In todays flat work force, many employees use laptops rather than desktops. A laptop enables employees to work from any location eliminating downtime for the field employee and increasing the efficiency of communication. However, every time an employee takes the computer out of the office, the potential risk of privacy is increased. Let us say an employee had a laptop with no logon protection. This employee worked in the financial sector of the business and after going to dinner while on a business venture, he returns to the hotel room only to find the laptop gone. Now, without the computer having any type of password protection, anyone can gain access. However, professional criminals can hack anything with or without protection.

In addition to accidents such as this, other situations could arise putting your organization in danger. For instance, if there were a disgruntled employee, perhaps someone passed over for a promotion, or someone who knows his or her job were ending, this individual may feel there is nothing to lose by leaking out or taking vital information. If this person were unstable or just angry, he or she could cause damage to the company through the sharing of trade secrets, personal data or other sensitive information. Then of course, you have people who go to work for companies specifically for the sake of stealing private data. Although this is not as common, it does exist and this practice is growing.

Yet even with Identity Theft and Privacy being spotlighted in the media, companies remain surprisingly vulnerable. Organizations around the globe have no clue to the quantity of sensitive information being leaked out but even worse, no tracking system is in place to find out or to correct the problem. While we often focus on the computer as a source of theft, private data can be taken out of a company in many other ways. For instance, iPods, USB sticks, or any portable device makes downloading information easy and covert. What happens is that in addition to the company and employees being at risk, customer relations could be severely damaged as well due to lack of trust and confidence.

To give you an idea of just how data is being taken out of organizations, 75% is with the use of a portable device, 63% via email attachments, and 59% from content within emails. Sadly, a number of companies were recently surveyed and of those, just 50% stated they had any concern. If you are working hard to build your organization, you need to take this risk seriously. With so many possibilities for privacy to be robbed, it is crucial that you understand the risks and then take appropriate action to correct them. If major data leaks can occur within tightly secured companies such as AT&T, National Audit Office, Veterans Affairs, and Google, then surely you too can potentially be at risk.

Take steps to protect your trade secrets and sensitive private data. This is an area worth making an investment. With the sheer volume of information that is produced daily within a company, it is challenging to ensure security. However, taking time to understand who has access to important data and how to best protect it is well worth the investment of time and money. After all, what would it cost you if your valuable data was lost or stolen?

Children's Christmas Make - Cardboard Nativity Scene

The nativity and the birth of Jesus Christ are the fundamental part of Christmas. Its the story of Mary and Joseph travelling to Bethlehem to be counted for the census. Poor Mary was heavily pregnant and had to ride on a donkey. When they got to Bethlehem all the inns were full, and Mary and Joseph spent the night in a stable, where Mary gave birth to Jesus, the Son of God. Angels, shepherds and three wise men from the east came to visit Jesus, who was lying in a manger. This is the traditional image we have of the nativity scene.

To make a cardboard nativity scene al you need is...

Loo roll tubes or other tubes, scarps of paper and coloured card, glue, scissors, felt tip pens, cotton wool, and a few sequins for decoration.

To make the figures...

The loo roll tubes for the main body of the figure. Wrap coloured paper around your tube so that it completely covers one half of the tube. This becomes the body and the bare tube becomes the figures head.

Cut out two small rectangles from some card, these become the arms. Stick them into place n the figures body, towards the top of the coloured paper. Stick a 'D' shaped piece of flesh coloured card on the end of the arm to form a hand.

Draw on the figures face with felt tip pens. You can also draw on clothing details or patterns.

Extras...

The shepherd holds a crook, its a hooked tool which shepherds use to put around a sheep's neck as a sort of temporary lead to guide the sheep where the shepherd wants it to go. Cut a long hooked shape tool from card and stick it standing upright in the shepherds hand as though he was holding it.

The three wise men wear crowns or a turban. Cut these out of coloured paper and wrap them around the top of the wise men's heads. Decorate them with sequins to make them look jewel encrusted.

Joseph holds a lantern. Cut a long stick with a 'V' shape at the top. Stick this into Joseph's hand so that it is standing upright. This pole is to suspend the lantern from.

To make the lantern, take a small, rectangle piece of card and fold it in half so that the top and bottom of the lantern are together. Cut slits along the folded edge. Open up the card and now curve it round so that the two side edges meet and slightly overlap stick these two side edges together. When the glue has dried off a little, give the lantern a little squeeze so that the lantern forms '' Shape. Insert a roll of flame coloured paper into the lantern, glue and trim so that it fits snugly into place. This makes the lantern glow as though it were lit. Stick on some threat or a thin strip of card so that the lantern can be hung from Joseph's pole.

Sheep are made by covering a loo roll tube in cotton wool. Cut out a face shape from card to stick on one end of the tube. Cotton buds form the sheep's legs and feet. Cut a cotton bud in half to form two legs, glue all the legs into position.

Jesus is made from a rolled up piece of card, with coloured paper covering his body.

The manger is made from a loo roll tube. Cut the tube in half lengthways to form two guttering looking parts. Cut one into leg type shapes on each side and stick the two half tubes together, back to back.

Arrange all the figures on a table to recreate the nativity scene.

You could also attach a thread from your figures and hang them from the Christmas tree.

Tips for Selling Property Privately by PrivatePropertyMart.com

When you receive your For Sale board from PrivatePropertyMart.com you should erect it at the front of your property, or in a position so the passing pubic will see it.

Remember, the passing public could be the buyer of your property.

The most important thing to remember is first impressions. Buyers will immediately downgrade a property if the front garden (houses) or hallways (flats/apartments) are littered. It only takes a few minutes to pick up some rubbish and put it in the bin.

If you can afford to spend a little money before you sell then we would recommend you decorate the property both inside and out, maybe even replace some carpeting in the entrance hall and living space. Make sure the colours you choose are light, like white or cream.

Remember, you may not like those colours, but you are giving the property a light and airy feel. Go to a show house and think about the feel you get when you first walk in.

Another simple thing to do is put some fresh flowers in the living room.

If your bath/shower room has a shower curtain/door then give it a good clean or even replace it if you can.

Most people want to see a clean and bright property. Its that simple.

Viewings

When the viewers arrive have ready for them your properties details. It only takes a minute to printout a few and it gives a good impression.

When showing viewers around always let them walk into a room before you. They get a better impression of space when nobody is blocking the full view of the room.

Have a fresh pot of coffee on the boil or even a vanilla pod in the oven, or even a few scented candles, smells like these make a property feel more homely.

Before they leave get their details, name, address, telephone numbers. Also, ask them what their buying position is, do they have somewhere to sell, are they first time buyers or are they investors. Information like this can help you to decide on who to sell to if you have more than one offer. An investor or first time buyer can usually complete on a sale much quicker than someone who has still to sell their property.

Main points to consider

1. Keep the property clean and tidy.

2. Decorate if you can. (White or light cream colours)

3. Have some nice smells in the air for viewings, freshly brewed coffee, a vanilla pod in the oven, or some lit scented candles. Or even fresh flowers in the living area.

4. Take details about each viewer, name, address, contact detail and buying position.

The Secrets That Lead To Great Colour Photo Prints

You've carefully composed that shot. You sat there, waiting hours on end to get the colours of that beautiful sunset just right. Then, finally, you shot your great sunset. Everything seemed like OK, but when you print your beautiful photo, it comes out dull, with little of the vibrance you expected to see. What a disappointment!

Most disappointments with photography being output on an inkjet photo printer have to do with the colour workflow. If your colour workflow is not set up well, you're bound to get results that look nowhere near what you expected from the shot in the first place.

So, how should you proceed to get the best looking output on an inkjet photo printer? It all starts with setting up your workflow correctly, and to do that, you need to make up your mind about a few things first. The first issue is to determine which level of output quality you want. If all you want is to output decent looking photographs without much afterthought more or less like you've shot them then let the printer decide the colours for you.

Most inkjet photo printers will allow you to either hook up a camera directly through PictBridge or a USB connection. You can then download the images into the printer and have them output immediately. Most driver software will allow you to select the printer as the decision maker for the colours it will print. But if you're passing through the PC or Mac, you should have an idea of how to set up a proper colour workflow.

The Colour Workflow

When printing an image through the printer driver on your PC or Mac, you should open the photograph in an image-editing program like Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or any other image-editing application. If you shot the photo using a digital camera, and you have used JPEG or TIFF as output file format, the camera will have 'tagged' the photo with a colour profile. This colour profile will be sRGB in almost every case.

A colour profile describes the colour space the number of colours and which colours exactly a device can produce or recognize. A working colour space is described by an abstract profile, which serves to give you a device-independent space to edit images in.

sRGB has seen excessively wide use, as especially HP and Microsoft were promoting it as the standard RGB profile. sRGB as a colour space has serious weaknesses there are a lot of colours today's printing presses as well as other output devices like photo printers, large format printers and many inkjets (not to speak of up to date monitors or digital cameras) can produce that cannot be stored in sRGB. If quality is important, sRGB is not an option.

Nevertheless, you should always use the correct source profile for the data at hand, and only if absolutely necessary convert from that colour space into a better one like Kodak ProPhoto, a colour space that is far larger than sRGB. ProPhoto's ICC colour profile is delivered with most Adobe applications. In your colour workflow your first choice should be to honour your camera's setting and keep the profile attached to the file.

If an application asks you if it's OK to throw the profile away, click 'Cancel', and shout "NO!" very loudly. If you do throw it away, some information about the image's colour gets lost. We can make that up by attaching another colour space's profile but you always risk to throw away a tiny amount of data due to the rounding errors inside the image-editing application's calculation engine.

If you shoot in Camera RAW mode, you're basically taking a picture without any interference of software algorithms at all. The camera will save the image exactly as it 'sees' it. Camera RAW is a format that you can only deal with on a PC or a Mac by using either the camera manufacturer's dedicated software or an application like Adobe Camera RAW in Adobe Bridge or Photoshop CS2, DxO, or another specialised application for editing RAW files.

With Camera RAW you can in theory attach any colour profile as you see fit, but in reality you will want to choose a working colour space that is large enough to encompass all possible colours the camera could detect.

Such a colour space could be the Kodak ProPhoto space and its associated profile. For Camera RAW photos and JPEGs which have no associated colour profile (anymore), Kodak ProPhoto makes the most sense. The colour gamut (number of colours it supports) is larger than AdobeRGB.

So, now you've tagged your photo with a colour profile. You're busy editing it in Photoshop or your favourite image editing application. And now you're almost ready to print it on your brand new n-colour inkjet photo printer. But first you want to check how the colours will look when they've been printed.

Softproofing

In Photoshop and some other image-editing applications, you can see how results will look by checking the image on-screen. To make sure that what you see on screen will be close to what will be on the paper, the monitor should be calibrated and profiled.

If your monitor has been set up properly, you can select the soft proofing feature from your application. Immediately, you will see the colours turn darker, more dull, less vibrant. That is because paper displays colours differently from a monitor (that emits light instead of absorbing it there it is, now you know). If your monitor is well profiled and calibrated, what you see when softproofing will be close to what your printer will deliver.

The profile used for the softproofing process will be the paper colour profile for the paper on which you intend to print.

Finally, when you're ready to print the photograph, you will select that same paper profile in the printer driver for output. The colour profile that you select in the printer driver will describe which colours the printer/paper combination can output and will translate those colours that it can't but nevertheless are in your image to colours it can.

For photographs you will select a Perceptual Rendering Intent think of this as the method by which colours are translated in such a way that they match the originals the most visually.

Why Translating?

The question that a layman will ask is why you should translate colours in the first place. The answer to that is: "Due to the differences between devices when it comes colour capabilities".

An inkjet photo printer may be capable of printing many colours, but it will always be more limited in that capability than a digital camera. This is due to limitations in the technologies used in both types of devices. Even the best printer will not be capable to print all the colours a digital camera can represent. (The same can be said of a monitor, by the way).

In order to somehow output those colours on paper as well, the original colours that lie outside the printer's 'colour gamut' are brought inside that gamut using an appropriate calculation method. The Perceptual Rendering Intent is most appropriate to photos because it will shift all the colours in such a way that the overall visual appearance still looks 'right'.

The reason why you should keep a profile attached to an image, or attach a nice, large working colour space profile to RAW images is that you want to be sure that no colours are thrown away from the start. As such a colour profile describes all the colours the image may contain, it pays off to choose a large gamut. That way you're always sure that your image colours will lie inside the gamut.

There are many different ways to come to these translations, and each will have its own slightly different result. That is the domain of colour management.

Where Do You Find Colour Profiles?

Each inkjet manufacturer delivers its own colour profiles for each of its printers with the printer you're buying. However, there may be problems with some of those profiles. Some manufacturers regard profile creation as an afterthought, while all manufacturers will deliver profiles that represent an average of the printers they make.

Unfortunately, every printer is slightly different from the next. Manufacturers will also provide you with printer profiles for all of the papers they make themselves. Again, the manufacturing process is not perfect and differences between batches of paper will exist. And papers that were not manufactured by the printer vendor come without profiles altogether.

While paper mills will create their own profiles, these may not have been created with your printer most likely they have not.

The only way to get perfect or near-perfect results therefore, is to create your own profiles. You can do so by buying a X-Rite or GretagMacbeth spectrophotometer like the Pulse or Eye-One Pro. These are excellent-quality measurement devices that come with the necessary software. The disadvantage of these packages is obviously the price. You won't get such a device below 1,000.00 Euros, which makes them too expensive for amateur usage.

The one product that is inexpensive enough to be reasonable for any amateur photographer, is ColorVision PrintFIX Pro. Unfortunately, this device has been tested and the results were mixed: sometimes you get an acceptable profile, sometimes you just get failures. You can read the test results in the Colour Management section at IT-Enquirer.

The third, and probably most cost-effective solution, is to have a third party create your printer/paper profiles. Such a service can cost from 40.00 Euros to well over 200.00 Euros, but most remote profiling services as they are called, are reasonably priced. One good profiling service is Thinck.

For 45.00 Euros they will create a RGB inkjet profile for you. As they are specialised in semi-professional and professional photography, their profile will be specifically checked and tuned for photographers' needs. On Thinck you can also order A3+ prints from HP's newest Photosmart Pro B9180 printer, an excellent 8-colour printer that they drive with EFI's Designer RIP.

Keeping Your Dog's Coat Clean and Healthy

Your dog wears a coat of insulation, helping him stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. His coat holds essential oils close to his skin, and protects it from scrapes and scratches. Its hollow hairs help him stay afloat so he can concentrate on swimming rather than treading.

Without daily maintenance, however, your dog can quickly become cheap transportation for burrs and other plant seeds. Parasites love to burrow in the warm, moist areas next to his skin, presenting a health hazard for you and your dog. With a few simple steps, though, you can maintain the health of your dogs coat without resorting to an expensive groomer.

As a natural part of their lives, dogs are skilled at self-grooming. They are taught by their mothers that grooming limits skin-borne diseases and parasites. Young muscles and bones benefit from the increased blood flow their massaging mothers stimulate. As they grow and become self-sufficient, they begin to groom themselves and become very successful at it. When a dog is living in a home environment, however, they need some human help to maintain a healthy coat.

Brush your dog frequently using a brush with soft bristles and a flea comb. Use light pressure and always stroke with the coats grain. This collects shedding hair before it gets all over your furniture and clothes and eliminates matting before it becomes too snarled.

Long and thick coats fight a constant battle against snarls. Dont use brute force to clear them; nobody likes to have their hair pulled. Use water to soften caked fecal matter or mud and scissors or clippers if necessary on nasty tangles and burrs.

Many dogs get very anxious around brushes and scissors. Their fears can result in snarling and nipping, which is why many groomers resort to using sedatives. This does nothing to quell the unnatural fear for the next grooming session, however. A much better way is to take him for a long exercise session to remove all his nervous energy, and then put him in a calm state lying down. Introduce him to the grooming instruments while he is in this calm state. Once he is through investigating them, you can begin to use them while keeping him calm and submissive.

Inspect your dogs skin while you are brushing. Be alert for skin irritations, dry skin, fleas, ticks and any sign of infection. While you will probably need professional help for fungal or bacterial infections, other problems can be handled on your own.

The two major causes of dry, irritated skin are too much bathing and a lack of lipids in your dogs diet. Bathe your dog with shampoo as infrequently as possible. Also, mix in a teaspoon full of vegetable oil with his food. His coat will take on a healthy glow, and the oil will moisturize his skin. Chlorine-filled swimming pools often contribute to dry skin, however, swimming is great exercise and a lot of fun for your dog, so dont cut it out entirely.

Regular application of flea and tick powder will help prevent you from having to deal with fleas and ticks. If you still find a tick, however, use tweezers to grasp the tick by the head. Jerk straight out so the jaws come with the rest of the tick. Dont squeeze the ticks body or touch it with bare fingers. Wash your hands after handling the tick.

Excessive scratching and hair loss are two signs of flea infestation. Fleas dont just stay on your dog however; they jump off and infest your house. Check the floors and baseboards for granules that resemble salt and pepper grains.

Toss the dog in the bath with plenty of dog shampoo. Follow up with a breed-appropriate flea dip. Now comes the hard part cleaning the house.

To clean the house you need to first get rid of the eggs and larvae. Vacuum all the carpets, including the baseboards, and all the upholstered furniture. Take the vacuum bag outside immediately and place it in a trash bin. Treat all carpeted and upholstered surfaces with specifically formulated insecticide to kill the adult fleas. Since the insecticides are toxic, youll want to keep your children and animals away from treated surfaces until it dries.

With regular grooming and attention, your dogs coat will stay healthy and clean. That protects your dog, your family, your wallet, and your home.
